About This

• Appearance: This zinnia variety is characterized by large, dahlia-like flowers that can reach up to 5 inches in diameter. They come in a spectacular array of colors including red, orange, yellow, pink, and purple, often with a mix of hues in each flower, giving them a unique, almost whimsical appearance.
• Growth Habits: State Fair Zinnias are known for their sturdy stems and resistance to common zinnia diseases like powdery mildew, making them easier to grow and care for than some other varieties. They typically grow to a height of 2 to 3 feet, making them excellent for cutting gardens or as background plants in flower beds.
• Blooming Season: These zinnias have a long blooming period, typically from mid-summer until the first frost, provided deadheading is regularly performed. This extended bloom time makes them a fantastic choice for gardeners looking to maintain color throughout the late summer and fall.
• Cultural Significance: Beyond their ornamental use, State Fair Zinnias symbolize endurance and the bright side of life due to their ability to thrive in hot conditions and their vivid, cheerful blooms. They are often used in educational settings to teach children about plant life cycles and gardening, given their easy growth and impressive display.
