About This

• Dramatic White Flower Stalks: Bear Grass, Xerophyllum tenax, is a distinctive western native perennial known for tall flowering stalks topped with dense clusters of small creamy white flowers
• Evergreen Grasslike Foliage: Long narrow tough leaves form substantial evergreen clumps that provide texture even when plants are not flowering. Despite its name, Bear Grass is not a true grass
• Western North American Native: Naturally found in mountain meadows, open woodlands and conifer forests across portions of western North America, making it an interesting choice for native and mountain style gardens
• Traditional Basketry Plant: Tough fibrous Bear Grass leaves have a long history of traditional use in Native American basketry and weaving, giving this unusual perennial botanical and cultural interest
• Cold Hardy Perennial: Grow in full sun to partial shade in well drained soil with moderate moisture. Seeds benefit from cold moist stratification before sowing and established plants can return year after year
