About This

  • Bignonia capreolata Tangerine Beauty or Crossvine, is a fast-growing, self-clinging, flowering vine that is native to the Southeastern US, but performs on par with most any cultivated exotic plant.
  • It is prized for its tight clusters of vibrant red-orange, nectar-rich, tubular flowers that are attractive to butterflies, hummingbirds, a variety of other pollinators. Crossvine is an easy-care, environmentally friendly choice for adding cover and texture to large areas, Buttefrly and Hummingbird Gardens or other Wildlife Habitats.
  • Care: When mature, plant in fertile, well-draining soil or potting media in a full sun area. Water as needed to maintain consistent soil moisture, but avoid overwatering. Overly saturated plants will become spotted, weak, thin, and fail to flower as expected. Feed a good quality, slow-release, bloom-boosting fertilizer with the initial planting and annually in spring thereafter. Prune after flowering to control size and shape. Avoid pruning in winter when plants are dormant.
  • Indoor Growing: Crossvines require the full spectrum of bright, indirect light for 4 to 6 hours daily. Warm temperatures above 75 degrees, high humidity when actively growing, and period of above freezing chilling during dormancy to produce flowers. The vine can be grown indoors fairly easily, but producing flowers can be challenging.
  • Climate: Crossvines adapt to cultivation easily within the recommended USDA Growing Zones 6,7,8 and 9. This vine enters a dormant resting phase in all climates. In Zones 6 and 7, and 8A,it may lose most or all foliage through the winter months as it rests and stores energy for blooming in the Spring. It is usually evergreen in Zones 8B and 9, but leaves become sparse and darken in color, and little new growth is produced during the resting phase.
